My favourite game (or GAMES)

I'm going to come right out and say it. I AM A GAMBLER.

I know I am one because when my dad got sick last year and i wanted to give up something I loved to kind of pray for his health, I gave up drinking. As opposed to gambling. I figured there was an upside to gambling (can win $$$!) but drinking was expensive and bad for health (but oh so yummy!). So, I have stopped drinking alcohol for 15 months. Fwah!

Since I have stopped drinking, more energy is now devoted to my other favourite thing. GAMBLING. I love the thrill, the possibilities, the games. From roulette to black jack to poker to my main love - MAHJONG... I love them!

Isn't the dude who invented Mahjong the most brilliant ever? There are so many ways to win, so many different rules and levels of playing, such intricacies, such ingenuity! And its such a wonderful communal game, unlike chess where only two people play,Mahjong requires 4 players which makes for perfect chit chat-ing and catching up.

Ok, enough time spent extolling the merits of the game. Right now, I need to find more MJ kakis. I do. Right Yona?

Almost a year...almost

With the advent of facebook and twitter and what not, it is getting increasingly easier to communicate your updates to your friends, family and the extended community. Hence, the non-action on the blog cos it's just so much easier on FB! Or perhaps I'm rationalising to all THREE readers I have out there. HA.

So what has happened so far since the last entry?

1) Boo has grown even more!

2) Boo#2 AKA Matthew Yeo was born. On the stroke of midnight on 18th May 2009. Just missing sharing a birthday with Aunty Wendy by a minute!

Look at him, isn't he a sweetie? Now that one of my best friends is a mother of 2, watching her deal with the 2 boys has more or less killed off any semblence of maternal instincts in me.

3) DN got hitched! At the risk of sounding unnecessarily dramatic, I've waited for this day a LONG LONG time. Not just for DN to get married, but for her to marry a good guy. :p

So many things have happened this year, that once again reminds me of how life is so transient. And how I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many true friends that I have known for decades. (And yes, we're now old enough to claim knowing each other for decades.) Preparing the powerpoint slide show for DN's wedding made me realise that we've really all gone through so much together. I must admit that I shed a tear or two whilst drafting my speech. Very drama, I know.

Looking back at all the milestones, plus the unfortunate juxtaposition of a wedding with a funeral just jolts the mind into some sort of weird space where happiness and sadness co-exist with nostalgia and gratitude. (I'm rambling again, I know)

Marriages, divorces, births, deaths, sicknesses. Boy has time flown by mercilessly since the days we terrorized our SC teachers. Thank God for these friends that have become family. I know we're in it for the long haul.
